All About the Paralympics

Articles and information about the Paralympics, an international, multiple-sport event for physically challenged athletes. The first Paralympics were held in 1960 in Rome Italy, under the name “9th International Stoke Mandeville Games”. In later years the event was known at various times as the “International Games for the Disabled”, the “World Games for the Disabled”, the “Olympiad Games for the Phsically Disabled”, and the “World Games for Paralyzed Athletes”. The first time the event was called the “Paralympics” was in 1988 for the Summer Paralympics VIII games in South Korea. See also other International Games.
