Cockfighting is still legal in some countries, but it is
banned in the United States and many other
parts of the world because it is considered a cruel sport by
animal rights activists and other organizations
and individuals. Advocates of the sport sometimes cite
cultural, religious, or historic reasons for participating
in the sport but for many it is primarily a gambling activity.
